Signing a Report
Signing a report locks it and makes it available to the care team. Reports follow a two-step signing workflow.
Preliminary Sign
Section titled “Preliminary Sign”A resident or fellow can sign a report as preliminary:
- Finish writing the report
- Click Preliminary Sign
- Review the confirmation dialog (shows patient and study details)
- Click Confirm
The report status changes to Preliminary and is visible to other physicians.
Final Sign
Section titled “Final Sign”An attending physician signs the report as final:
- Review the report content
- Click Final Sign
- Confirm in the dialog
- The report is locked and marked Final
After final signing:
- The report becomes read-only
- An “Electronically Signed” notice appears with your name and timestamp
- The report is sent to the EMR/referring physician via HL7 (if configured)
- You’ll see an option to Share the study with external recipients
Merge Field Validation
Section titled “Merge Field Validation”Before signing, Bormell checks for unresolved merge fields (e.g., {{PATIENT_NAME}} that wasn’t replaced). If any are found, you’ll see a warning listing the unresolved fields. Resolve them before signing.
After Signing
Section titled “After Signing”Once a report is final, you can still add an addendum or correction.
