Signing a Report

Signing a report locks it and makes it available to the care team. Reports follow a two-step signing workflow.

A resident or fellow can sign a report as preliminary:

  1. Finish writing the report
  2. Click Preliminary Sign
  3. Review the confirmation dialog (shows patient and study details)
  4. Click Confirm

The report status changes to Preliminary and is visible to other physicians.

An attending physician signs the report as final:

  1. Review the report content
  2. Click Final Sign
  3. Confirm in the dialog
  4. The report is locked and marked Final

After final signing:

  • The report becomes read-only
  • An “Electronically Signed” notice appears with your name and timestamp
  • The report is sent to the EMR/referring physician via HL7 (if configured)
  • You’ll see an option to Share the study with external recipients

Before signing, Bormell checks for unresolved merge fields (e.g., {{PATIENT_NAME}} that wasn’t replaced). If any are found, you’ll see a warning listing the unresolved fields. Resolve them before signing.

Once a report is final, you can still add an addendum or correction.
